Description: Authentic v Forged Morrisseau Compared >>> In the opinion of Norval Morrisseau protege, Ritchie "Stardreamer" Sinclair, you are viewing an image of an authentic Norval Morrisseau painting compared with an image of an INFERIOR COUNTERFEIT NORVAL MORRISSEAU painting that was derived from the original artwork which appeared as a limited edition print and was published as a poster. Inferior Counterfeit Provenance: Displayed by Ugo Matulic, Michael Moniz and Joe Otavnik at http://norvalmorrisseau.blogspot.com A young male forger did this, and a number of other forgeries recently. All are very immature copies or worse. Many of these, including this one have ended up in Ugo Matulic’s art collection of fake Morrisseaus. Here we see two attempts at capturing the image from Morrisseau’s masterpiece. The authentic Morrisseau painting is entitled, “Shaman’s Apprentice”. Morrisseau created this portrait to honour Stardreamer. The painting itself is approximately 8ft x 5ft. It was painted in 1980 and then printed by Albert Volpe of Alvo Art in 1981 on heavy gauge hand-made rag paper using a revolutionary printing technique. The print is entitled,“Shaman’s Apprentice Visionary”. The Prints from this collection and the original paintings from this period ended up, for the most part, in Europe. The image of the original painting was also used for a poster promoting the “Sylvan Image Collection” Ontario North Now, Ontario Place from May 10 to June 2, 1984, just after his Exhibition, Norval Morrisseau and the Emergence of the Image Makers was held at the Art Gallery of Ontario.
